Barnard 175 is a dark nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, forming part of a region rich in interstellar dust and molecular material. Dense clouds of gas and dust within the nebula absorb and scatter the light of background stars, creating dark lanes and irregular silhouettes against the surrounding star field. Such dark nebulae are important sites for studying the cold interstellar medium and the early stages of star formation, where gravity can cause dense regions within the cloud to collapse and eventually give rise to new stars.
